Backyard Farming

For the past 4 or 5 years since moving to the Grass Lake/Jackson area we've always had a vegetable garden of some sort – whether we followed through on it though is another story. This year, we're giving the garden AND Chickens a try!

Backyard Farming

I've ALWAYS wanted Chickens. Like, I've begged Casey for probably 7 years now, and the closest I've ever got to owning a farm animal were the bunnies we bought shortly after we moved here.

After researching chicken breeds for longer than I want to admit over the weekend, we ended up buying 4 Bantams and 3 Silver Laced Wyandotte chicks, and so far I'm happy to report that all but 1 have survived. The one that passed was the 'runt' of the handful we purchased, and I had a feeling she wouldn't make it.

Casey also picked up all our supplies to start our seedlings this Spring, and I could not be more excited to get started! The whole fam is going a bit stir crazy with the state mandated lock down, on top of crappy weather. I'm hoping to at least get the seeds started this weekend, but I'm still doing some research on when is the best time to start indoor seeds in Michigan.

That's all for now!
